Methods: We performed a retrospective review of subjects treated at 2 different medical clinics that apply the same method of auricular acupuncture (SAAT) to AGS patients. The objective of this study is to describe 2 populations of subjects who underwent Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) for significant AGS meat and/or dairy allergy. Most publications on AGS describe no management other than avoidance of the offending agent(s). Individuals exhibiting an unknown severe allergic reaction may have an undiagnosed Alpha-gal allergy.Introduction: Alpha gal syndrome (AGS) is an acquired allergy to mammalian products correlates with a tick bite(s) that appears to cause immune sensitization to an oligosaccharide in meat. 45 of them had antibodies to Alpha-gal which means they may have had an allergic reaction – and a majority had experienced a tick bite within the past year that had persistent itching and redness. In a study, 51 children between the ages of 4 and 17 who had a history of delayed anaphylaxis (their throat closes making breathing difficult), or who had experienced hives from an unknown cause, were tested. ![]() ![]() Those who have had multiple Lone Star tick bites. Most cases of Alpha-gal allergy appear to be in people over 50 years of age. Both children and adults can develop Alpha-gal allergy. Most cases of Alpha-gal allergy have been reported in the southeastern and midwestern United States where Lone Star ticks are found.See a healthcare provider immediately if you experience a severe allergic reaction that includes difficulty breathing or throat tightening. Symptoms may not occur after every exposure and can vary from person to person.Īlpha-gal allergies can be severe, and even life-threatening. Experts suggest that individuals who experience skin redness and persistent itching at the site of a Lone Star tick bite may be among those who have a tendency to develop an Alpha-gal allergy. Many Alpha-gal sensitive individuals have inconsistent reactions to eating meats and other fatty foods derived from animal sources. Symptoms of an Alpha-gal allergy commonly appear 3-6 hours (sometimes longer) after eating red meat (e.g., beef, lamb, pork, venison, goat, rabbit) or after exposure to products containing Alpha-gal such as some animal-derived medications, vaccines, gelatin, and milk products. Lone Star tick bites have been linked to Alpha-gal reactions.1,3 Lone Star ticks are known to be aggressive human biters. Lone Star Tick Ticks That Carry Alpha-Gal Experts believe that the reaction may disappear over time through dietary changes that include avoiding fatty animal-derived foods (beef, pork, lamb, venison, cream sauces, ice cream) AND by preventing additional tick bites. There are also links to high physical activity levels before eating meats and other animal-derived fatty foods and to drinking alcohol during the meal. High fat content foods made from animal products (fatty meats, heavy cream-based sauces, and ice cream) also appear to be important in causing this reaction. ![]() In severe cases, immediate medical intervention is needed. It is hard to diagnose because the reaction typically occurs several hours after the meal. It occurs in some, but not all, individuals who have previously been bitten by a Lone Star tick. Alpha-gal allergy ( Alpha-gal syndrome) is an allergic reaction triggered by eating red meat, such as beef, pork, lamb, or game.
